Why Standardization, Regulations and Safety at BSMRAAU?

The Department of Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation (ASAI) offers a program named M.Sc. in Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation. The MSc program in Aviation Safety & Accident Investigation (MSc in ASI) offers deep knowledge and functional skills of aviation safety and accident investigation for students to meet the national and global demand. Aviation safety is an applied field of Aviation Operation ensuring safe and secure air operations. Besides, accident investigation is specialized field of aviation safety dealing with the accident investigation and prevention methodology. Accident investigation technique is also suitable for other sorts of transportation accident investigation such as railway, naval vessel, road transportation and so on. There is at present no specialized institute offering any higher studies program in the field of research and development on both aviation safety and accident investigation which will be resolved considerably by the MSc in ASI program. This program will also contribute generating adequate number of specialized professionals and researchers with due exposure and expertise in the field of aviation safety and accident investigation contributing to the Nationwide Safety Drive of all the sectors of transportation. The group of expertise being generated as the end product will be available for any future development of aerospace technology as well. Moreover, thesis program will have the Crash Laboratory developed which will be the first of its kind in Bangladesh thus would play a vital role for the Accident Investigation Analysis.

 

In order to prepare BSMRAAU as the apex institution for aviation safety and accident investigation filed, BSMRAAU is poised to offer diploma, and post graduate programs in Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation along with said programs for aviation enthusiast and related people in near future.

 

The BSMRAAU curriculum for MSc in ASI has been prepared keeping in mind the focus of this institution. The said curriculum incorporates core subjects of aviation safety, regulations, accident invention and prevention methodology so that the graduates can further move on and contribute as experts in the field of aviation safety, generate accident investigator for different field of transportation and directly contribute to research and development in aerospace sector.

 

BSMRAAU is confident that, by offering the said course on Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation, the program will directly contribute in the development of aviation and aerospace sector in Bangladesh.

 

Masters of Science in Aviation Safety and Accident Investigation (MSc in ASI), a 48-Credit hours degree program, will be completed in two academic years consisting of four semesters. A student will be required to take in Applied Aerodynamics along with another three modules in first semester and three to four modules each in each of the rest of semesters. Out of six, total four elective courses will be offered by the Department. In third and fourth semesters a student will undertake thesis. The viva-voce will be compulsory for all at the end of the 4th semester and will take place after completion of written examinations. A Masters level research thesis is required to be conducted under the supervision of the students’ advisor and thesis committee. The individual thesis is a chance to study a specific subject or problem area in much greater depth and use some of the techniques learned during the course. It gives MSc students an opportunity to apply the technical and analytical skills taught during the course, in a practical way. Submission of a final report, approved by the thesis committee, and an oral defence of the research work in the form of Presentation are required for thesis credits to be earned.
